2022 Roundup

I made 11 things in 2022, which is less than some years but still a good amount for a busy year. In 2021, I had hoped for more consistency in my making over the year and in someways I achieved that although mostly by having a slow pace throughout the year. In the first half that was for fun reasons and in the second half it was unfortunately due to poor health. Fortunately I’m getting better and have some exciting things coming up in 2023 to look forward to.

I bought 10 projects into 2022 with me. Of those I ditched a cross stitch I wasn’t enjoying, and then finished a quilt, an embroidery, a necklace and the beaded stars. So I’m only bringing 5 projects into yet another year. I think this is pretty good going, which is a relief because I was feeling a bit like I’d abandoned some of my longer term projects.

Talking of which, my goal for the year was to do one stitch a month on my large embroidery, my jumper and my cross stitch. I actually did really badly at this. It was pretty useful for the first half of the year and then I got sick and my prioities changed. As I’ve recovered, I’ve needed to prioitise resting which has meant I’ve gravitated towards the projects I find mediative, so beading and handsewing. Which is why the two biggest projects I’ve finished this year are my Rosemallow quilt and my beaded christmas stars.

The rosemallow quilt was started in January 2021 and finished in September 2022, which is pretty good going for a handsewn and handquilted quilted. Its been gifted to a baby and is being well loved.

The beaded stars were only started in December 2021, but I aimed to make 25 over the course of the year. I actually made 35, and used up every unbranded silverlined seed bead I owned. Its been incredibly medative and I have been looking for ways to use up the seedbeads for a long time. They were bought over many years and were of varying quality but this has been a great way of turning them into something beautiful. I might one day do some more stars but I am going to take a break to work on other projects for a moment.

I’ve also made and bought home 11 pottery items. This year I’ve made things that look like the idea in my head which is a nice place to have finally reached.

I’ll do a post setting next years resolutions tomorrow.
